Welcome to my blog…
My name is Penny Tucker and I live in Northern California. I am a legally addicated to applique, quilting, teaching, and travelling the English countryside. I’m a hard-core fan of Yuwa Shoten fabrics (you’ll hear me talk about them), and hope to bring attention to them. I teach quilting with an emphasis on applique in the San Francisco Bay Area, and hope that my students will use this blog as a resource.
Penny,
Lovely blog! I was instructed to look at it because I am building a blog for a school group and yours is of a high standard! Lots of stuff to distract me and great photos. I love all the hyperlinks – must figure out how to embed them in my blog. So much to learn, so little time. Quilting has taken a back seat with me all summer (sob sob).
My soon off to college daughter just came back from a trip to England with a friend. They had fun without their parents breathing down their necks!
Best wishes,
Sue
Penny, thank you so very much for all the kind words, many of which I could also apply to you. I love seeing my quilt on your blog.
I hope all is well and will continue to check in to see just what you are doing.
Funny you should mention AQSG. I belong to a group here in the mid-west called MOKA. Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. We meet three to four times a year and share, and study quilts. Many of the members are AQSG members and came back from the last meeting aglow with all that happened!
Well, off to walk with my son (long story for another time) warmly, Nadine
Penny!
Your blog is outstanding. I love, love, LOVE it. Off I go to read some more

Hi. love your blog. I hope this helps. These are some places you can get Yuwa fabric in Australia.
Quilters Barn is the distributor for Yuwa in Australia. The website is http://quilters-barn.com/ Unfortunately they ‘upgraded’ their website recently and it doesn’t work very well. You may have to email them for some photos.
This one also sell some Yuwa Fabrics but there aren’t many at the moment
http://www.tqes.com.au/index.aspx?KW=yuwa
And this one http://www.quiltsmith.com.au/store/merchant.ihtml?id=441&step=2&product=yes. If the link doesn’t work, go to the home website http://www.quiltsmith.com.au, go to Products, Fabrics and do a search for Yuwa.
Also unrelated, have you come across this quilt designer in Australia http://michelleyeoquiltdesigns.com Have a look at the rulers under ‘Other Products’. They were designed by an Australian quilter and have been hugely popular.
And have you gone to the website for Threadbear? The owner of the shop, Corliss, did the pattern for the Civil War Bride quilt. http://www.threadbear.com.au/. You might also like some of their patterns, particularly those by Di Ford.
Hope this helps

Hi Penny, Thanks so much for wonderful comments. I love
fussing cutting hexagons to get secondary pattern and yes I love Yuwas too. You sure can talk about them on your blog as that is why we all do this to share. Cheers
Sharron
Penny, I finally found you!!
How are you doing?? I see by your blog that all is swell.
By the way, I hope you’ll remember me ; ) I did the West of Baltimore quilt and we met at Whiffle Tree when I did a trunk show of my quilts. I was going to join the Goddesses, but life got in the way — Whiffle Tree closed and I didn’t follow you to your new location. Being in the same “sorority” as Jeana Kimball (our common dear friend), I don’t do extra-curriculars on Sundays.
I just got back from Elly Sienkiewicz’s Applique Academy in Williamsburg (Guest Artist and teacher) and have my mind and heart filled to brimming with applique — and remembered that I had not seen you since Whiffle Tree.
I hope that you’re doing well, and would love to get together with you some time soon and talk about applique!
warm regards,
Annie
Penny !
It’s me – Kaari! When do you need your bracelet kits?? I am waiting on a bezel for the strawberry – and I won’t have it till Friday. Can we ship out Monday?
Hope all is well!

A friend and I are traveling to the UK this summer for the V & A exhibit–but because I teach we can’t get there until 15 June. I would love to hear some of the recommendations you have about places to see while we are there. We plan to be in London a week, head to the countryside, including Wales by car, and then finish up in York. We are especially interested in places you would recommend in the mid-section, the Cotswolds, near Oxford, near Stoke-on-Trent etc.
Thanks!
Debby
P.S. We have determined that we are NOT bog snorkling kind of girls–so please keep this in mind when advising.
Hi Penny
I’m planning a post about the gorgeous Rouenneries fabric range & various quilts produced with it & I have a favour to ask. Could I please borrow your photo of the lovely appliqued Fleur de Lys to include in the blog post?
Kind regards
Gisele
I’m so glad I found your blog. I, too am addicted to applique, and was honored a few years ago to have my Baltimore album quilt accepted into Elly Sienkiewicz’s show at PIQF.
Hi Penny
I came across your images of coats cottons and would love to include them in a site I’m helping a friend build for her 140 year old department store in Somerset in the Uk. I wondered if I could use it on the site in the haberdashery section?
I look forward to hearing from you
Kind regards
Debra Finn
